Does God have a secret service?
The Central Intelligence Agency is one of many secret services. Are you in the know? Does God have a secret service?
Oswald Chambers writes “We are called to be unobtrusive disciples, not heroes. When we are right with God, the tiniest thing done out of love for Him is more precious to Him than any eloquent preaching of a sermon.”
I was gifted with an amazing mentor a former member in the intelligence community in it’s early day’s. He was the real deal, trained in the ways of the secret services; trained with day’s of silence, learning to carefully observe and gather “intelligence”. He was given orders to follow one small task at a time without fore-knowledge or understanding of the connections or their purposes within the greater objectives. In obedience to the smallest simplest tasks, often alone, he was lead to be a key component in major battles and into real authority and effectiveness. Yet, he was often hidden, unseen ; not recognized. ,Does this sound like the way God sometimes works?
The point is ; if we are given insight, understanding or intelligence or are participating in gathering it one does not give it away while the operation is ongoing, nor does one share it with the wrong people, nor at the wrong time. The master plan is known generally only by the “intelligence corps” and they are few; that the enemy might remain ignorant of the greater plan. “Loose lips sink ships” we learned in WWII. I’ve seen more than a few relation-ships go down in flames because of my undisciplined “loose” lips. “the lips of a tale bearer separate intimate friends” prvbs
” Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine, or they will trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces”. Matthew 7:5-7 (NASB)
Are you ready for this level of anonymity? Can you handle obedience to simple tasks without knowing the end from the beginning? You had better be if you wish to be faithful. The time may come to understand but until then be careful to speak only at the right time, to the right person. Do your work quietly, without grumbling or complaining respectful of the others about you they too have their jobs to do. Otherwise you might actually be disruptive an agent of the enemy’s agenda to divide the army; the body of Christ. Infighting, rebellion, dereliction of duty subverts the plans of God. We are called to provide peaceful, loving, kind, submissive service. We are to be obedient to our elders and leaders; to be patient. Nor to act as a lone ranger, being rouge is very dangerous.
Real warfare is precisely timed; specific actions must be made on time. Some times in war the inteligence corps are hidden amongst the other troops with the mandate to only observe not to move or interject. If correction is necessary that is done very discretely and very, very carefully, in coordination with the bigger plan and its specific timing.
And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does that have to do with us? My hour has not yet come.” John 2:3-5(NASB)
Jesus also said… “I do not call you servants (slaves) any longer; for the servant does not know what his master is doing (working out). But I have called you my friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from My Father. [I have revealed to you everything that I have learned from Him.] “John 15:14-16 (amplified)
We do actually know the end of the story, yet we are walking out in space and time the reality of this great adventure for our generation. Wow we should be careful with the intelligence and information we gather along the way.
We are tempted as Mr. Chambers reminds us ; “We all have a lurking desire to be exhibitions for God, to be put, as it were, in His show room. Jesus does not want us to be specimens, He wants us to be so taken up with Him that we never think about ourselves” . If we reveal ourselves prematurely, If in looking for vain glory we blow our cover we might miss out on the greater blessings of the “secret service”.
Agents in the intelligence community are generally anonymous to the greater forces. But here is a real secret for you, agents in the intelligence services are given any rank necessary to do their job within the assigned units, and this may very; the rank necessary for the job at the time is granted to secret agents. They have access to substantial authority. Their authority is independent of the general military hierarchy for they report directly to the Pentagon. Those that question their authority are required to report directly to the Pentagon as well.
But do not think these credentials and trust is given without the faithfulness first being proven under fire; over time, generally in secret, hidden away, unknown to most. This training entails death, the death to self, the death to recognition. But it promises great fruitfulness for the kingdom and the Glory of Christ’s becoming manifest. Jesus wants us to be so taken up with Himself that we forget ourselves and his will and way alone is revealed through us.
“Be careful! When you do good things, don’t do them in front of people to be seen by them. If you do that, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. Matthew 6:1(NCV)
“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly”. Matthew 6:5-7
As we grow in truth and grace we learn things and often long to share them. We may be gifted with a great a “bandwidth” seeing clearly, far and wide with insight and vision. We may understand the schemes and plans of the enemy and see clearly the work and purposes of God. Yet these insights might be for a future time, another battle, a different agent. Another operative in the secret service of both God and man. A former trainer of secret agents and also a believer in Jesus informed a protégé “Wisdom keep’s its mouth shut”.
We can be tempted to reveal what we know at the wrong time. We have real intelligence for we have resident in us the Spirit of Truth who” will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” John 16:12-14. Truth must be given in grace, and on time to be effective. It must be submitted to the plan and the perfect timing of the father or it will be wasted or fail doing damage not good.
Truth is serious intelligence, real power, and it is antagonistic to lies and deceit; one should be careful with it. Hearts and futures hang in the balance of our words and actions. Life or death rides on the wings of our words. I regrettably have done real damage in my training; yet there remains God’s grace and mercy.
“And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them”. Isaiah 42:15-17
We are saved, redeemed, and healed in or failure for it is but training for the victory to come another day. We then will share in His glory. For the father has answered the prayer of Jesus the Christ (Yeshua Ha Mashiach)..
“Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world”. John 17:23-25
